Breakfast Burn
The
old adage "King's breakfast, prince's lunch and beggar's
dinner" now has a scientific basis. Many of us
think that if we skip breakfast, we will reduce
our total calorie intake for the day and lose weight.
Unfortunately, the opposite is true. Not having breakfast
means that you will eat more for the rest of the
day. A study in healthy lean women
found that skipping breakfast compromises insulin
sensitivity and leads to weight gain1. If you want more proof,
look at sumo wrestlers who never eat breakfast. They
wake up and the first thing they do is exercise vigorously.
This combination of skipping breakfast and training really hard for five hours
means they will starve by the time they can eat. As a result, they
overeat.
